Dr. Kenneth L. Harris, Ph.D., is a prominent figure known for addressing social-economic challenges within the global Black community. He is descended from the Mafa people in Cameroon, Africa, and ancestry hails from lower Kemet (Egypt). Dr. Harris was born and raised in Detroit, MI (Home) and currently residing in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, GA.Dr. Harris serves as the 16th President/CEO of The National Business League, which was founded by Dr. Booker T. Washington on August 23, 1900. The National Business League is the first and oldest trade association for Black businesses in America, with access to more than 3.2 million Black-owned businesses throughout the U.S and internationally.Dr. Harris has received many accolades and awards throughout his career. He was awarded the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) 2007 Minority Business Advocate of the Year award and was named in Crain's Detroit Business's 40 Under 40 Class of 2007. Dr. Harris was also honored by Michigan Women's Marketplace and CEED as the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year.In 2008, Dr. Harris received the Excellence Award for Economic Empowerment by 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit, Inc. Furthermore, he accepted the 2009 CBS-WWJ 950 Emerging Leader Under 40 Award for Black History Month, and the 2010 Michigan Front Page's Inaugural 30 in Their 30s award.Dr. Harris was selected as DBusiness Magazine's 30 in Their 30s Most Influential and was featured in Ebony Magazine 2011 Sexy Man of the Year within Nia Long Cover Issue. Also, he was featured in the 2012 Aetna African American Black History Calendar America's Most Influential, and the Michigan Chronicle Newspaper honored him with the 2012 Men of Excellence Award.In 2013, Dr. Harris was named by Counselors International as one of the "40 Under 40" top economic development professionals in the United States. In 2014 he was featured in the CBS TV 62 and WWJ 950 Black History Month Distinguished Leader Showcase.Dr. Harris has also received awards in recent years, including the 2015 Comerica Bank Community Partnership Award, the 2017 National Veterans Supplier Diversity Council Leadership Award, and has been featured in the 2018-2024 DBusiness Magazines' Most Influential Business Executives in Metro-Detroit. Dr. Harris also received the 2024 The World Conference of Mayors Distinguished Man of the Year Award.Dr. Harris earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Michigan State University (Big Ten) in Lansing, MI. His PhD features a combined specialization in African American and African Studies, Economics, and Entrepreneurship.
