After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Dave joined academia, and he has taught business courses to over 2,500 students at the graduate, undergraduate and doctoral levels. He has served on the faculty at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Marquette University, Iowa State University, MCI Management Center (Fulbright), and Florida State University. LeadershipPrincipled leader with practical experience managing complex organizations, and honed verbal and written communication skills. Led multi-billion-dollar F-22, AC-130, and MQ-1 procurement programs, earning awards for program management at Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC), Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio (Sylvester Award #1/329) and the Air Force Pentagon (Acquisition “Officer of the Year” #1/250). Engaged in university governance and professional societies. At Iowa State University, Dave took part in the Faculty Executive Board, and College of Business Faculty Executive Committee. At Florida State University, he was recognized with a "core values" award for his contributions, including serving on the College of Business Executive Committee, and University Faculty Leadership Committee. Dave has also served as department chair, leading a department of 20 faculty and scheduling courses for over 2,000 students annually. Nationally, Dave has served as a member of Fulbright Regional Review Committees. Internationally, Dave serves on multiple journal editorial boards, and as a program chair for the Strategic Management Society’s Teaching and Learning Community.ResearchRecognized as a “top 20” most influential M&A scholar by an article in European Management Review published in 2017. This reflects his efforts to review and summarize M&A research, as he seeks to also contribute to it. For example, Dave has co-authored three books on M&A published by Routledge. Additionally, his meta-analysis aggregating results from 93 studies, and it is the 4th most cited paper published in Strategic Management Journal published in 2004, and he published an updated meta-analysis in Journal of Management Studies in 2021.
