About Knut Schroeder

I’m a GP with over 30 years in the NHS and academia. I now focus on digital health innovation by creating specialised mobile apps that offer organisations a better way to provide unbiased health information, promote self-care, and signpost support.I work with the NHS, universities, local councils, charities, and businesses — as partners and clients — to address their most pressing challenges and bridge gaps in care. Together, we enable people to live healthier lives, reduce health inequalities, and ease service pressures.I became interested in mobile health and founded Expert Self Care in 2012 to offer my students and patients faster access to credible, useful, and comprehensive health and well-being guidance — in one place on their mobiles.Since then, I've co-produced several specialised, award-winning apps that serve high-priority groups — including students with mental health challenges, people struggling with self-harm or suicidal thoughts, and those with specific health conditions like eating disorders or kidney disease.Giving clients and users an exceptional experience is at the heart of what I do. I thrive on building strong, long-term relationships with diverse organisations. I always involve lived-experience experts in co-creating user-friendly apps that are free at the point of use.One user of our 'distrACT' app said: "I'm blown away; it's brilliant. Thank you for restoring my faith in human kindness with this non-judgemental app."Our evidence-informed apps are ORCHA-reviewed, PIF Tick certified, and meet the NHS Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC). With over 250,000 downloads and 1.5M+ page views, they empower people to make informed choices and access help in a crisis.I’ve authored medical books and published academic papers. I also serve on the Advisory Boards of the Patient Information Forum and the Self Care Forum to help shape the future of health information and self-care.Reach out to explore how we can work together to support underserved communities.Contact: knut.schroeder@expertselfcare.comLearn more: www.expertselfcare.comFollow: @DrKnut and @expertselfcare
