The interagency Federal KM Working Group is the official professional network for KMers in the Federal space. With over 700 subscribers to the list, the KMWG represents Federal KM leaders, academics, consultants and contractors who practice KM and share their knowledge with the community.

E-Gov KM is/was the premier annual DC conference for knowledge management in the public sector. Now rebranded/organized as 1105 Government Information Group.

Office of Human Resources, Professional Development and Knowledge Management.The Nuclear Regulatory Agency defines the regulatory environment for the future of nuclear energy in the United States. At the same time the nuclear industry was experiencing a renaissance, there was a shortage of talent along with fears of losing knowledge through mass retirements.Worked with government executives and staff to develop and enact a KM program to address organizational development including agencywide knowledge gain and loss. Goals: ease knowledge loss, manage change, attract top talent, and integrate diverse perspectives. Built an open, collaborative KM leadership environment agencywide. Results:According to the OPM-sponsored Federal Human Capital Survey for the entire Federal Government, NRC was ranked: #1 in Leadership and Knowledge Management #1 in Training and Development #1 “Best Place to Work” in the Federal GovernmentNotable activities and accomplishments include:- Crafted KM vision documents to inspire action and change agencywide as well as across the Federal Government.- Created the online NRC KM Dashboard to raise transparency of agencywide KM activities.- Led KM Community of Practice (CoP) and catalyzed CoP technology implementation.- Launched new programs to enable knowledge sharing, e.g. “Expertise Exchange.”- Pioneered adoption of KM 2.0 technologies for networking, collaboration, and to publish and share knowledge assets – spoke at one of the first conferences in Second Life with NASA.- Elected Co-Chair of the Federal KM Working Group to bridge awareness across government.

Worked initially as a consultant (6 months) and then offered a federal position for the CIO/G6 KM evaluating vendor solutions for the IT side of KM, updating the KM way-ahead, speaking to Army leadership and coordinating KM leadership across the Army. Crafted the script and shot initial concept that served as the basis for a widely distributed Army film on KM.- Designed strategy and policy recommendations for Army’s KM way-ahead.- Briefed CIO/G6 leadership on KM strategy for the Army and coached commanders in KM.- Developed and delivered high-level presentations on the confluence of KM 2.0 technologies and Human Capital Management, emphasizing learning and leadership development.- Educated staff and evaluated emerging social media technologies for potential adoption.- Initiated and led first Narrative CoP through the Federal KM Working Group.Best story: We could say "KM Saves Lives."

Served as lead methodologist for KM offerings and liaison for client-side Public Services and Knowledge Management practices. Designed the "KM for the Federal Executive" series. Developed Enterprise IQ instrument. Won work and built visibility at KM conferences and across the firm.
