Dr. Larry A. Calderon recently retired as assistant professor on May 6, 2016. Previously he served as Vice President for Community and Government Relations at Nova Southeastern University's Fischler School of Education. Most recently Dr. Calderon also worked as a Leadership Coach with Achieving the Dream.Inc.Previous to coming to NSU Dr. Larry A. Calderon was the fifth president of Broward Community College (BCC), a diverse, multi-campus community college in Broward County. BCC is the second largest community college in Florida and sixth largest in the country. Recognized as an expert in strategic planning, Dr. Calderon was responsible for the development and implementation of BCC’s Education Master Plan, the first strategic plan in the college’s 45-year history. Under Dr. Calderon’s guidance, the college was determined eligible as an Hispanic Serving Institution and subsequently awarded a $14.5 million Title V grant, the largest ever awarded to a single institution of higher education in support of the college’s Education Master Plan goals. In addition, BCC also received $1.5 million when selected in the first cohort of Lumina Foundation’s “Achieving The Dream” colleges.He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in Cultural Anthropology. His graduate degrees are from the University of Southern California where he received a Master of Arts in Education and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education.Before coming to BCC, Dr. Calderon served as president and district vice chancellor for economic development at Ventura College from 1995-2004. He also served 10 years as vice president for administrative services and as vice president for academic affairs of Oxnard College. Dr. Calderon’s career also includes eleven years as a student services professional at Ventura College and Los Angeles City College located in California.Specialties: Strategic leadership and planning, transformational change, organizational development.
