FounderThe Horizon Project Mar 2002 - May 2016UsThe Horizon Project is a long-running research project that since 2002 has continuously examined new and emerging technologies and the trends and issues accompanying them. I founded the series, and for 15 years, produced an ongoing series of reports, wikis, discussions, papers and other resources related to this work. During my tenure, the Horizon Report grew to nearly 6 million downloads a year, and is still used in some 200 countries. -

Culminating with a $3.2 million Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant awarded in 2015, my 15-year fundraising average was slightly more than $1.3 million a year.Under my tenure, the New Media Consortium (NMC) grew to be an international not-for-profit consortium of learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies. Its hundreds of member institutions still constitute an elite list of the most highly regarded colleges and universities in the world, as well as leading museums, key research centers, and some of the world's most forward-thinking companies. Under my leadership, the consortium and its members dedicated themselves to exploring and developing potential applications of emerging technologies for learning, research, and creative inquiry. The consortium's Horizon Reports, which I founded and directed for more than a decade, are regarded worldwide as the most timely and authoritative sources of information on new and emerging technologies available to education anywhere. -

Launched publicly in June 2006, NMC Virtual Worlds generated more than $1 million USD per year in revenue between 2006 and 2009, all from operations that were entirely conducted in Second Life.
