About Lee Whitesides
I am a board certified Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon. I began my professional career as an employee in a large group of doctors. I soon became partner. After a decade of working in the group I set out to practice solo. While working as a solo doctor, I began to work one day a week at a friend’s dental office providing oral surgery to his patients. I enjoyed the experience and the additional cash. When that work arrangement ended, I replicated the experience at other dentist offices. I began to question the traditional specialist office model. Why pay rent, hire staff, and equip a facility for surgery when I could work in another dentist office, use their facility and staff, while I provide quality care. I asked my general dentist colleagues, and they were all in.The challenge lay in establishing a predictable and profitable oral surgery arm of the existing successful practice. This took time and a considerable amount of hard work.The lessons and experience I learned while establishing an oral surgery service at multiple dental offices is a valuable service I can provide to the general dentist. My knowledge and experience in this space has grown out of years of hard work and attention to detail. As Clinical Director I provide 100% of the curriculum to teach students about phlebotomy and starting an IV. I have worked with the GDA to make this course the best possible version of such a course. We cover Infection Control, disposable of BioMedical Waste (BMW), medical and dental emergencies, and other important topics as directed by the Georgia Board.
