Research Associate on AHRC-funded project 'The UK Film Council: A Case Study of Film Policy in Transition.' Co-Author of The Rise and Fall of the UK Film Council (Edinburgh University Press, 2015) From April 2000 to March 2011 the UKFC was the key strategic body responsible for supporting the film industry and film culture in Britain. This research examines how and why the objectives pursued by the UKFC changed over time; how competing economic and cultural objectives were negotiated; the performance of the UKFC in fulfilling its objectives; its role in helping the UK film industry adjust to a digital environment; and the strategic lessons that can be drawn from its overall experience. Prior to this I worked on the AHRC-funded project 'Public Understanding of Business: Television, Representation and Entrepreneurship.' Co-Author of The Television Entrepreneurs: Social Change and Public Understanding of Business (Routledge 2012)This research examined the rise of the 'business entertainment format' on television and provided the first full investigation into the role played by programmes such as The Apprentice, Dragons' Den, Mary Queen of Shops and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares in encouraging entrepreneurship among audiences.

SET READY SAFETY, our project to transform workplace safety culture in the screen industries, has been selected for a place on the highly competitive ASPECT RESEARCH COMMERCIALISATION (ARC) ACCELERATOR. The ARC programme is specifically designed to help academics transform ideas into businesses or social ventures by providing sector-specific training, dedicated mentorship, and access to investors and networks.
