The Pursuing Equity Learning and Action Network Pursuing aims to reduce inequities in health and health care access, treatment, and outcomes by implementing comprehensive strategies to create and sustain equitable health systems.

The inaugural Leadership Fellows Program is a nine month rigorous and intensive Black women’s leadership program that seeks to further Higher Heights investment in Black women’s leadership.

Having consulted as a health equity strategist since 2016, in 2018 Dr. Lewis founded Liberation Health Strategies to operationalize and focus on community, national, and global holistic strategies for health equity and justice. As founder and president, she works with various individuals and organizations in many areas, including as featured speaker, providing health/wellness consultation and facilitation, program/policy review and design, and political analysis and strategy.

The Healthy Equity Cypher is a group of experienced professionals committed to improving the conditions of America’s most vulnerable, with a special emphasis on the Black community, through public health, health equity, policy, clinical and leadership strategies designed to target social systems rooted in institutional racism and classism. As one of 5 co-founders, Dr. Lewis works with the other founders to provide stellar technical assistance, executive coaching and leadership development, and holistic practice for health equity leaders. www.healthequitycypher.com

Since the completion of her residence in family medicine and fellowship in geriatric medicine in 2008, Dr. Lewis has drawn from her medical training and earlier experience in athletic training and emergency management/response to provide specialized and timely care for communities that are near and dear to her. She has provided 1-on-1 preventive, acute, and long term medical consultations including house calls and has assisted with planning for health and security service needs for events such as the Women’s March -- 20 mile journey from NRA headquarters to the US Department of Justice in 2017 -- and The 50th Anniversary of Freedom Summer in Jackson, Mississippi in 2014. Her group healing practice ranges from facilitation of healing circles to leading mindfulness moments in meetings, conferences and events, to yoga and movement instruction. PPEF was founded in 1986 to address critical social, economic, racial and environmental issues facing low and moderate income New York State residents. Our areas of work have included health care, education, after-school programs, voter participation, economic development and consumer issues. PPEF uses many tools in its work, including grassroots organizing, research and policy development, public education on a wide range of policy issues, and community outreach.The Public Policy and Education Fund of New York (PPEF) is the not-for-profit research and public education affiliate of Citizen Action of New York.

Maintained relationships and engaged national strategic partners in African American Civic Engagement and advised SEIU on political strategy, policy development, and advocacy. Advised on health advocacy and justice strategy for SEIU locals, partners and constituency groups. Worked with labor/healthcare/community coalition in Brooklyn New York to increase community engagment around improving health outcomes. Advised SEIU Racial Justice Task Force on Health Equity resources and strategy.

Lead 1.1 million healthcare member SEIU Healthcare, the largest division of SEIU with members in the continental US, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Served as spokesperson, worked with community-based, national and global strategic partners, and cultivated advocacy amongst members and staff for ACA implementation, health systems transformation, health equity, and social justice. Led and assisted in crafting education, preparation, and response to the 2014 - 2016 Ebola epidemic. Advised on political strategy, organizational equity - including active participation in constituency groups, millennial engagement, and leadership development. Position Eliminated in May 2016.

CIR/SEIU is a 50+ year, 13,000 member union of residents, interns and fellow. With members in 6 states and DC (NY, NJ, MA, DC, NM, FL, CA), worked with leadership team to increase advocacy of physicians for themselves and the communities they served. Increased political participation at local and national levels. Developed physician leadership. Worked with partners in organizations led by physicians and healthcare workers to advocate for healthcare reform. Worked with union members and community partners in all industries to work toward social justice.Prior to serving as President, served as Executive Vice President, Vice President - NY Region, and Delegate.
