In my Northern BC Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) Lab at UNBC, we study physiological changes in muscle and in the brain related to injury, exercise, and rehabilitation. We do this primarily using NIRS to interrogate tissue metabolism via hemodynamics (e.g. blood flow) and oxygen consumption. We also use electromyography and electroencephalography (EMG/EEG) to measure electrical activation of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
