This is an area which is vastly underutilised in terms of research delivery. However, by having a proven research active infrastructure in place across all sectors of pharmacy we could help develop a more extensive portfolio which has a proportionate representation of CTIMPs. This would be in line with current government strategy, in particular the ‘Life Sciences Strategy’, which would like to increase the attractiveness of the UK for clinical research delivery. My roles for the Primary Care Research Networks (PCRN) and West Yorkshire/South Yorkshire/North East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire (NEYNL) Comprehensive Research Networks (CRN) have allowed me to develop the foundations for achieving a more representative portfolio. I have been able to develop pharmacy research through my academic, commercial and NIHR network connections and more recently as member of the English Pharmacy Board of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. This is an exciting time and through the integration of pharmacy research into the new themed cell structure I feel we could develop on my vision. I would like to see a pharmacy network closely aligned with the primary care research network. The ultimate goal is to advance high quality research and support its delivery to enrich and drive forward high quality evidence based practice. My natural coverage through my roles for both the PCRN and CRN is the footprint for the new Academic Health Sciences Networks. This would make the integration of this proposal easier to undertake and one that is an exemplar model for those in other areas to follow. Show less -
