Dr. Manuela Powell is a relationship coach for folks who are ready to create connections that break free from society's made up rules. After finally getting the memo that she was queer at the tender age of 47, she realized most people could use some help in breaking out of whichever BS box they’ve been stuck in forever, so she took it upon herself to become their relationship spark plug.For almost 20 years, Manuela was a breast cancer surgeon, but after having her second baby she decided she wanted to free herself from endless work hours, toxic work environments, and unflattering scrubs. She put away her scalpel to, instead, dissect people’s minds and help them cut out the “shoulds,” "musts," and “not-good-enoughs” that hold them back, so they can build relationships on their own terms, to the horror of the patriarchy police.A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she has lived in NYC, Washington, DC, and Hawai'i, and now calls Austin, Texas her home, as a single mama to her two awesome dudes. She dances every day, curses like a sailor who stubbed his toe, and doesn’t give a single crap about people who think she should start behaving her age.

The 6ft Apart was a limited series podcast, launched right after the pandemic first hit. It was a daily live show, streamed of Facebook, where other coaches were interviewed by me about topics to help people cope with our new reality. Some of the conversations included: how to manage your emotions on a crisis, how to keep your sobriety while at home, how to homeschool your kids, and many more. There were 20 episodes that can still be extremely helpful today, even as we are able to resume life as we previously knew it, because what's the point of being locked down for so long and not learn anything new abut ourselves?

In my private practice, I provide patient care, education and counseling for women with a variety of breast concerns: benign diseases, diagnosed breast cancer, suspicious lesions, and those at high risk for malignant tumors in the breast. One of the most satisfying aspects of my job is to witness a patient leave my office less terrified about her diagnosis than when she came in, with enough information to decrease her fear and give her confidence and hope.Since 2014 I have maintained a high traffic educational website (in Portuguese) to extend this knowledge to women beyond my clinic. It has been incredibly rewarding to be able to reach people who have less access to specialists in their quest for answers about their disease, and inform the general public about recent health topics.
