Provide strategic and operational leadership for Nebraska Medical Center, a 700 bed Level 1 trauma center, the NCI designated Buffet Cancer Center and Werner Cancer Hospital, 100 bed Bellevue Medical Center, a regional network of 70 provider-based health centers and an 800-member medical group affiliated with UNMC College of Medicine. Annually the health system provides care to 33,000 patients requiring hospital care and over 1,000,000 patients in our clinics, treatment and diagnostic centers. Partner with colleagues, faculty and leaders from UNMC Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Allied Professions to ensure our clinical operation provides sustainable, high quality, highly satisfying care while ensuring optimal experiences for health sciences students and supports clinical research in all settings. Oversee the operations of inpatient, ambulatory, procedural areas and information technology.

Dr Ash has responsibilities for Information Technology, Quality & Safety, Marketing, Patient Experience and Access. Dr. Ash is also the Vice Chancellor of Information and Technology at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

With more than 19 years of health information technology experience, Dr Ash has led the development of IT infrastructure and implementation of electronic health records globally. Dr Ash was Chief Medical Officer and VP of Physician Strategy at Cerner Corporation where he was granted over 10 patents, helped launch Cerner's population health platform and created the Cerner Physician Community (CPC) to help foster physician input and collaboration.Prior to joining Cerner, Dr. Ash worked as an internal medicine physician. He earned his B.S. in pharmacy and later his medical degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He completed his internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr Ash worked with clients to design solutions that enable physicians to deliver evidence-based care and meet their current and future workflow needs. Dr. Ash joined Cerner in July 2003. Since that time, he has helped create solutions resulting in more than 25 patent applications. His prior roles include chief medical officer of community health strategy, vice president of physician strategy, where he led the enhanced view redesign of PowerChart®; vice president of provider strategy and director, responsible for Cerner’s oncology solution. Dr. Ash's clinical experience ranges from private practice, in a rural setting, to working as a hospitalist at Northwestern Memorial. He served on the faculty of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and is a frequent guest lecturer at leading MBA programs and Northwestern University Graduate Informatics program. Prior to joining Cerner, Dr. Ash was in private practice as an internist at Quincy Medical Group, and the chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill. He has experience as a staff pharmacist at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
