I'm an intensive care doctor, researcher and author. My open letter addressed to patients during the 2020 COVID pandemic has been read by over half a million people worldwide and viewed by over three million times after featuring on Channel 4. My first book CRITICAL (2019, Simon & Schuster) is about the science and stories from the brink of life. It has been translated into four languages and featured in The Times. My second book ONE MEDICINE (2023, Simon & Schuster), looks at how understanding the lives of animals can help treat human disease. It combines stories of medicine, nature and travel to places including Africa and the Galapagos Islands to meet the animals discussed. I've spoken to large audiences at some of the largest book festivals in the world including Hay, Russia and Ubud. My articles have featured in The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph, Esquire magazine, The Daily Mail, The Sunday Mirror and The Huffington Post. Since narrating the highly rated audiobook of CRITICAL, I've spoken on a number of popular podcasts and radio programmes including The Today Program on BBC Radio 4 and international talk shows. I've appeared on a number of television programs including Sky News, CNN, ITV, The BBC, The Jeremy Vine Show and international channels. I have around one hundred publications in peer reviewed journals including leading or helping with international clinical trials that have been published in The BMJ, JAMA and NEJM.I've was nominated for the 2021 Royal Society David Attenborough Prize for public engagement in science. I'm a member of the BMJ Commission on the Future of the NHS and the medical advisor for The National Theatre' in London's production of "Nye", the story of Aneurin Bevan.I live in Cardiff with my family.
