Bowman is vice president of networks and continuous improvement at Learning Forward. She leads the network's strategy that supports state and local education agencies committed to professional development redesign and oversees the development of content and learning designs that support the organization's capacity to engage in continuous improvement processes. With 30 years in public education, Michelle has served in leadership at the district, campus, and classroom levels. As an executive director of professional learning, she strategized the implementation of the professional learning system. She designed, planned for, and facilitated the professional learning needs of school district professionals. Bowman began her career as a mathematics teacher. She also served as a mathematics curriculum director and high school dean of instruction. She chaired Learning Forward’s 2013 Annual Conference and served as president of Learning Forward’s Texas affiliate.In December 2021, Michelle completed her Ed.D. in Learning and Organizational Change at Baylor University. Her dissertation investigates the impact of an inter-district community of practice on school district leaders' learning and professional learning efficacy. Michelle earned her Master’s degree in Education from the University of North Texas and graduated from The University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.In addition to the dissertation, Bowman’s publications include articles in the Learning Professional and the Journal for Staff Development. She also co-authored Teacher Professional Development in the Digital Age: Design and Implementation of Learning without Limits in Technology in the Classroom: How It Can Improve Teaching and Student Learning in American Schools (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017) with Learning Forward Executive Director (retired) Stephanie Hirsh.Michelle refreshes her soul, mind, and body by singing songs of worship and spending time with family and friends. She enjoys great coffee and long walks.
