Dr. Michael Fong is a Neurologist and sub-specialty Epilepsy Physician. Alongside his private practice, he holds appointments at the Westmead Hospital Comprehensive Epilepsy Unit (one of the largest epilepsy services in NSW) and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.Having completed his medical training at The University of Sydney, Dr. Fong’s general neurology training was undertaken at several tertiary Sydney hospitals, including Prince of Wales Hospital and Westmead Hospital. His first epilepsy fellowship was at Westmead Hospital. Dr. Fong then furthered his epilepsy training at the Yale Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, New Haven, CT, USA. While working at Yale, Dr. Fong trained with many of the pioneers of epilepsy surgery and world leaders in epilepsy management. Dr. Fong is particularly trained in medically refractory epilepsy (i.e., epilepsy that is not controlled by medications), which includes the discussion of epilepsy surgery and use of implantable devices for the reduction of seizures. Research is an important part of Dr. Fong’s practice. He is currently completing his PhD with The University of Sydney, in the areas of medically refractory epilepsy and EEG monitoring in critically ill patients. Dr. Fong holds the positions of Assistant Professor Adjunct at the Yale School of Medicine, CT, USA, and Clinical Lecturer with The University of Sydney.
