Churchill Fellowships are given to outstanding individuals with a commitment to improving society for the power of their ideas and their potential to be change-makers. My fellowship, which was postponed due to COVID, focusses on how to reduce the environmental impact of scientific research - a topic which I am extremely passionate about. I engaged with stakeholders and used my personal experience to produce a wide-ranging report covering, among other things: innovation, behavioural interventions, policy and social entrepreneurship to solve this opaque problem. With the help of the Churchill Fellowship, I am actively communicating my research findings to key opinion leaders.

I was involved in the successful sale of the Group to a publicly listed company. My role involved performing data analysis, synthesising the pitch deck, and other commercial due diligence activities. Prior to this, I positioned the company for tender by working closely with senior leadership and sales teams to drive business development and improvements in client-facing content and SEO.

Together with a team of fellow postgraduates, I created a science podcast aimed at other students and interested members of the general public to share our research, disseminate advice, and contribute towards a kinder and healthier environment for STEM students.

Pint of Science is a global science festival that reaches over 150,000 members of the public annually. I teamed up with a like-minded KCL scientist to deliver 15 events from 5 different sub-teams across a number of campuses. To achieve this, we appointed and managed a media officer and a treasurer. This required effective communication and leadership skills to balance the needs of our team, sub-teams and the head office. Additionally, I was invited to give a public talk on my research, entitled 'Living Drugs', at the Pint of Science Festival London Launch Event.

I tutored science and mathematics to GCSE students with a diverse range of academic backgrounds. In this role, I aimed to share my enthusiasm for these subjects and to help them understand complex concepts.

As a teaching assistant, I helped university students understand key concepts in Inorganic Chemistry. Following this, I was invited to give a 2nd year undergraduate lecture on Enzymology.

I added value by adapting quickly to distinct roles within a dynamic one-year-old start-up, whilst continually providing excellent customer-facing support. I worked on the production line, at sales events, and as a customer service operator. I helped with the design and content of a new website (see link below), and established an e-mail newsletter to share event news and drive public engagement with the brand.

I won the Pro Vice Chancellor's Interdisciplinary Research Award for instigating a new collaboration between the Faculty of Science and the Musculoskeletal Research Unit at Southmead Hospital in which I synthesised living, biodegradable nanomaterials for bone regeneration. The hierarchically designed nano-scaffolds were analysed using electron microscopy and tested for biocompatibility on mesenchymal cells.

I joined a project team who were working on developing a customer-centred strategy support plan. I was responsible for developing a model to to predict the usage of certain alloys in automobiles in the coming years. To do this, I drew upon the expertise of industry contacts who were able to provide insights that added value to the customer and the conclusions of the report. In addition, I enjoyed working with other teams, helping them with time-sensitive extraction and refinery projects.I was also given the opportunity to undertake professional career development courses and collected my own reviews from colleagues. On my recommendation, Wood Mackenzie initiated a feedback system for future interns in order for them to identify strengths and development areas.

As Women's Captain for the University of Bristol Cycling Club, I was responsible for driving female engagement with the club by encouraging women to sign up at Freshers’ Fair, leading women’s rides, promoting female participation in trips and competitions, and listening to feedback from club members. My women’s team won bronze in the British Universities and College Sport Mountain Biking Championship. I also wrote a British Cycling blog throughout 2012-2014 which aimed to build on Britain's Cycling success in the 2012 Olympics with a view to widening female participation in the sport.

During my first year at university, I fundraised, budgeted and controlled the finances for the 2012 Fusion Summer Ball. I was asked to continue as Treasurer for the 2013-14 academic year, during which time I conducted a detailed and extensive financial audit for the Student’s Union.
