The National Black Women's Justice Institute (NBWJI) is a nonprofit organization focused on the reduction of racial and gender disparities in the justice systems affecting Black women, girls, and their families, by conducting research, providing technical assistance, engaging in public education, promoting civic engagement, and advocating for informed and effective policies.

Dr. Couvson taught MA-level research and policy courses in the Leadership and Social Justice concentration programs.

Dr. Couvson teaches in the sociology department on race, gender, and society.

Dr. Couvson taught an upper-division undergraduate course on Black Women in America in the Ethnic Studies Department.

Dr. Couvson was the CEO and principal consultant for MWM Consulting Group, LLC, which provided research and technical assistance to advance concepts of fairness, diversity, and inclusion.

Dr. Couvson developed a research and policy framework by which to address the educational pathways to confinement for Black girls. Dr. Couvson authored the African American Policy Forum (AAPF) publication, "Race, Gender, and the School-to-Prison Pipeline: Expanding our Discussion to Include Black Girls" and led research that will be shared in the forthcoming AAPF report, "Voices of the Unheard: Girls of Color Speak Out on Zero Tolerance and Push-out in Schools."

The NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots civil rights organization. Dr. Couvson led the development and implementation of the research agenda for the Association, authored numerous research-based publications to support the mission of the organization, and worked as a member of the staff senior leadership team to help rebuild the programs department. Dr. Couvson also served as the Executive Director of the NAACP Financial Freedom Campaign Center, where she developed strategic plans, facilitated partnerships with key institutional partners and provided key leadership for the design and implementation of research projects associated with the Centers' mission.

The Discrimination Research Center combined research and public education to discuss the prevalence of discrimination in access to employment and public services.
