We’re all made by the stories we tell ourselves and each other, and how we analyze and understand our world. I function at the crossroad of analysis and imagination. I’m energized by observing a thing in action, taking it apart to explore it from different angles, sharing and clarifying what I learned, and then working to improve and remake the thing in a new light. Professionally, I’ve applied this approach in my academic roles as a writer, researcher, and educator. Personally, I’ve used it to develop empathy, build community, and live ethically.- I’m a creative and scholarly writer who has published nonfiction essays, academic articles, and creative fiction in top academic journals and literary magazines. I write to decenter dominant narratives, expand multicultural literacy, and work towards robust social justice.-Writing is a social act that flourishes in the process of giving and receiving. I’m a skilled editor who has experience in developmental and copyediting feedback through a decade of teaching and early experience in the publishing spaces of national literary magazines. I have also earned financial support by writing grant proposals and securing thousands in funding for research and creative projects. - My beliefs teach me that knowledge is a responsibility. You have to share it and activate it. I’ve communicated my subject expertise to specialist and public audiences; I’ve delivered talks at national conferences; I’ve designed and executing 18 classes on 12 original topics focused on antiracism and anti-imperialism offered to STEM students; I’ve given news media interviews and public talks at theaters on contemporary social, cultural, and political issues, and I’ve offered consultations to art museums and other cultural institutions to help them craft more inclusive and culturally sensitive offerings- I’m driven to work towards social good projects, whether I work in a team or in a leadership positions. I’ve led, served, and collaborated on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, and I’ve worked to give back by teaching refugees overseas and by serving as an academic grant reviewer for underserved international populations. As a daughter of immigrants, a global Muslim, and a proud Syrian-American, making space for non-dominant people, ideas, and projects is a passion and mission. No matter where you find me working, I’ll be serving my Muslim and Arab communities locally and globally, and building with friends and supporters along the way.
