I am a board-certified dermatologist that has completed a Micrographic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology (Mohs Surgery) Fellowship under Donald J. Grande, MD, the first Mohs Surgeon in Boston, MA, along with a Melanoma Clinical Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Wellman Center for Photomedicine in Boston, MA. Much of my medical career has been in the military, where I served 27 years in the Air Force, Reserves and Air National Guard. I have also previously served as a faculty member for the Departments of Dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Currently, I am the Director of Cutaneous Oncology for the Department of Dermatology of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. I also split time as the President of Dermatology Health Specialists, a clinic system focused on serving high-risk and underserved populations within rural Oregon.In addition to my clinical work, I have been heavily involved in healthcare improvement initiatives primarily through the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), and the American Medical Association’s National Quality Registry Network (NQRN). Most significantly, my work guided the development of the AAD’s national performance measurement system and data registry (DataDerm) for all of dermatology.My interest in healthcare performance improvement parallels my clinical research interest of understanding the risk factors that lead to high-risk skin cancer and advanced melanoma in order to improve care processes and promote health. With this research/performance improvement interest, informatics background and policy work, I am dedicated to exploring methods to integrate patients, clinicians, health systems, and city governments to drive the creation of healthy sustainable communities.
