Intern

Current

Geneva, Switzerland

In my current internship with the Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), I support resource mobilization and partnerships, manage stakeholder data to map out synergies for desirable outcomes, and draft case studies for publication. I also create data visualizations, revise secretariat documents, and take minutes at crucial meetings with key stakeholders such as country members and partners. Additionally, I prepare materials such as PowerPoint presentations and talking points for senior officials, support outreach efforts, and draft ministerial letters and emails to maintain clear communication and follow-up between CREWS, its donor countries, and partner initiatives. Being well-versed in the MS Office Suite assists me in systematically navigating resources and monitoring updates by maintaining effective databases. My bachelor's degree in English and work experience in an international organization support my ability to draft quality documents using diplomatic language.

1. Role of an educator: I was the class teacher of 72 students across grades 4th and 5th in a budget private school in Old City, Hyderabad. I designed daily lesson plans in English and Mathematics and underwent rigorous pedagogy training and mandatory sessions held by Teach For India (TFI) every month to keep up with the best teaching methods and monitor progress. As a frontline worker during the pandemic, I also overcame the challenge of providing internet services and devices to continue online classes by collaborating with the TFI administration and creating databases. This was highlighted as a Best Practice on the city level. 2. Stakeholder Management: Placed in a budget private school located in a poverty-stricken community in Hyderabad, India, I acted as a bridge between the school management and TFI to achieve the common goal of eradicating educational inequity. Additionally, I carried out community visits, i.e., visiting the houses of my students and navigating conversations to understand the challenges affecting their education (such as financial issues, domestic violence, religious dogmatism, drug abuse, child marriage, etc.) 3. Self Initiatives: I fundraised INR 100,000 and handled the social media page of the school (showcasing the utilization of the funds to bear transparency to the donors). The majority of this amount was utilized to purchase a water cooler to ensure safe and clean drinking water in the school. Additionally, I organized informative sessions with eminent personalities, and developed a "Be the Change Project (BTCP)" mandatory in the second year of the fellowship, called Nanhi Zubaan (Hindi for Little Voices). This project focused on spreading awareness and creating a safe space to address socio-emotional changes during puberty, unity in diversity, setting boundaries, and carrying out the distribution of resources around reproductive health and hygiene, which impacted around 115 students across three schools.
