Responsible for the interpretation and representation of 80+ marketing campaigns — and chief steward of online brand representation — on the microsoft.com network. Helped marketers across the company look at their marketing goals/message from different perspectives and craft the story that best resonated with the audience on both an intellectual and emotional level. Part of my role also involved working with our regional offices across the globe on design standards, new innovations for marcom/advertising, and championing the spirit of our brand family online.Partnered with other Design leaders across the company to define and rollout the company’s first official career model for the Design discipline.

Worked on various online offerings for the microsoft.com network, including leading the design direction for the Windows and Office product sites, the Windows Media Center campaign site, microsoft.com/athome and /atwork, and the Windows XP campaign sites.

Managed the creative team and oversaw design direction for the MSN Carpoint channel (now autos.msn.com). Worked directly with PMs and BDMs in the group to craft new experiences for customers and partners. Collaborated with other design leaders across MSN to establish a new set of design guidelines for consistent site UX, and created online experiences for the Detroit Auto Show in 2001 and 2002.Founded the MSN Monarchs hockey team, invited AOL to join the Microsoft Hockey Challenge, and raised $178,000 for Ronald McDonald House Seattle.

Served as volunteer board member, and marketing/creative consultant for this startup venture, providing strategic guidance and advice to the founder, CEO, and staff.

Owned creative and UX strategy for this startup, co-owned client pitch process, managed designers and developers, defined design processes.

An LLP founded by myself and two of my UW business school colleagues, this co-op-based design firm was a means for both feeding our creative souls and taking care of college bills. In December of 1999, one of my colleagues graduated early and moved to Chicago at around the same time I was invited to join a start-up (Pangia.com), so we dissolved the partnership and amicably went our separate ways.

Where I made my transition from print to digital — all the way back when we still called it The Information Superhighway.

Where I began my career as a creative professional way back when many agencies and design firms still did paste-up comps and sketched/lettered by hand. It if weren't for Creative Director Terry Bottiger seeing some potential in me and giving me a shot as a summer intern, I might have taken a very different journey. I credit him for helping me harness my passion for design and storytelling into a meaningful career path. And to this day I still miss the smell of spray-mount and the warm glow of ruby-lith on a light-table.
