Wife: Roxanne, kids: Sierra (11) and Jake (8). Past 5 years: Spanish/EAL, ISKL. Expanded language program to include all grades, one through five, as well as the addition of Mandarin language. With colleagues, coaches, director of curriculum, re-wrote new units that better support the needs of language learners. Enhancements implemented: more visuals, increased conversation time, max. exposure to target language, projects, tech, and themes applicable to lives of students. Worked with EAL students as both in-class and out-of-class support teacher. As in-class support teacher, use co-teaching model, I share in the planning and delivery of lessons. Out-of-class EAL support mirrors curriculum of homeroom class. First year at ISKL I taught grade 3. The ten years prior, taught in ES classroom as well in L. A. Unified School Dist. in the USA. Earned National Board Certification in Los Angeles (http://www.nbpts.org/), which is a Master's equivalent. I go beyond my teaching role: I get involved in school and community by utilizing my personal talents, interests. Mural painting and school beautification projects with students, parents and teachers. Some mural themes: dancing fruits and vegetables, the food pyramid, 50+ flags from around the world, rainforest and underwater ocean scene. Musical interests: I enjoy playing music in classroom, getting together with fellow teacher musicians for fund-raising or a performance or school productions. Fundraiser causes: orphanage, endangered tigers, sea turtles, dugongs and orangutans.My mission: Know every one of my students personally, build productive rapport, know strengths and needs, in order to offer best support possible.
