Within my role as deputy clinical lead it is my responsibility to develop treatment pathways, devise and implement interventions and supervise junior staff. There is a strong focus on engagement and personalisation within the work carried out. In addition to maintaining an individual caseload I also organise and deliver long term group schema therapy. I have also been the lead in the development and implementation of a self-harm group intervention which is a first for the prison estate. Alongside the core clinical service the Pathways Service is involved in the establishment of Enabling Environments (EE) on normal location prison wings. I have been the Clinical Lead on the development of one of these EEs. This has involved closely working with staff and offenders in order to improve their working relationships and ownership. As a new initiative to the prison it has involved considerable perseverance and creativity to ensure the project has progressed as it has. The award was received in March 2016.The post requires a high degree of inter agency working, both within the prison and with community services. I also offer consultation across the prison in relation to problematic prisoners and input in the management plans in relation to engaged clients. As the service is a newly commissioned service there is also a great deal of scope for evaluation research. I have been central in the construction of research protocols and the implementation of these. As well as junior psychology staff, whom I directly supervise, I work closely with prison officers. In this capacity I encourage the use of psychological understandings of behaviour and offending as well as aiding in the development of interpersonal and therapeutic skills. Show less

As a lone practitioner I became well practised at assessing managing the risk of my clients whilst they are in the community during their treatment and responding in a timely and appropriate manner when risk factors change. My clinical work was informed by my training in Cognitive and Systemic approaches as well as Analytic ideas. The post required a great deal of autonomy and this is something I am accustomed to. I undertook waiting list initiatives that cut waiting list times by over 50% in 6 months. My role also required me to provide consultation to Primary Care colleagues about the assessment and management of clients within other areas of the service. The Bridlington RPIT team offers community mental health support to individuals with non-psychotic mental health difficulties. Within the team I have a number of roles and responsibilities. As part of the MDT I offer psychologically informed assessment, formulation and management plans for staff members as well as consultation and supervision regarding client care. I offer direct therapeutic input to clients where there is a defined need for psychological input. I commonly work directly with individuals with complex presentations, personality disorders and high levels of risk as part of the wider MDT intervention plan. Additionally, I offer psychometric assessment as a tool to aid in treatment planning and delivery and I am competent in the use of and interpretation of a number of different assessment measures. At a service level, I am currently leading the development and delivery of a 12 week Mentalization Based Therapy Psycho-education group program for individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder. This work has involved individual therapeutic sessions, working with carers and/or family and co-coordinating therapeutic interventions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.During my direct clinical work I have encountered a diverse range of clients in terms of ethnicity, socio-economic status, sexuality and culture. In addition to being sensitive to the needs of individuals in regard to these dimensions, I practice in adherence to current ethical guidance and strive to minimise power imbalances. The main therapeutic approaches I have employed in line with my doctorate teaching include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Systemic/Narrative Therapy. Through supervision, implementation and outcomes I am confident in my ability to effectively administer these psychotherapies. In addition to the main approaches listed above I have had direct experience of, and supervision in, implementing Compassion Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Functional Analysis, Family Therapy and Cognitive Analytic Therapy, both at the formulation and intervention stages. My clinical work has been assessed in a number of domains. As well as undergoing formal evaluation of direct clinical work as part of my doctorate, I have been observed numerous times by supervisors and received feedback from clients I have worked with. In all instances I have received positive feedback but have also used these as a chance to reflect and further develop my skills. The majority of my clinical work has required working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
