Project Leader
Leading a DFG-funded project “Machine learning-based prediction of the first-line AML treatment response” as a part of my independent research.Responsibilities:• Third-party funding acquisition (DFG grant number: 448405134)• Laboratory management• Teaching: Seminars and practical courses for biology students (including supervision of master and bachelor’s students)• Identification and coordination of the cooperation partnersOutcomes:• Identification of EGFR and MEK inhibitors as combination partners of standard AML drug daunorubicin based on their transcriptional compatibility• Development of ANN model to predict AML response to standard drugs based on gene expression and mutation
Postdoctoral Researcher
Worked on a “Data-Independent Acquisition-based Systems Medicine (DIASyM)” project to integrate multi-omics biological data to obtain disease-relevant information.Responsibilities:- Associating lipids to diseases, including cardiovascular diseases- Manuscript writingOutcomes:- Development of web-tool LipiDisease for lipid-disease enrichment analysis (http://cbdm-01.zdv.uni-mainz.de:3838/piyusmor/LipiDisease/)
Postdoctoral Researcher
Worked on a independent project "Smart TOP2-like targets for combination therapy in AML".Responsibilities:• Identifying specific biomarkers associated with topoisomerase II-targeting cancer drugs• In vitro and ex vivo testing of transcription-based drug combinations in AML samples
Phd Candidate
Cancer treatments with classic cytotoxic drugs are constrained by the resistance of cancer cells and indiscriminate toxicity towards normal cells. They are gradually being replaced by the drugs and molecules targeting cancer-specific molecules and processes. However, only a few of such targeted drugs provide clinical benefits compared to cost-effective classical drugs. Herein, I investigated an unexplored approach of improving the efficacy of the classical anti-cancer drug etoposide.Responsibilities• Investigating the effect of topoisomerase-II targeting cancer drugs on cancer cell transcription (RNA-Seq, ChIP-seq)• Identifying drug-targettable biomarkers for novel drug combinations• Writing manuscript• Writing project proposals and acquiring third party funding (Monika Kutzner Stiftung and Brigitte und Dr. Konstanze Wegener-Stiftung)
Project Assistant
Responsibilities• Synthesis of organic (lipid) nano-particles specifically targeting mitochondria• In vitro validation of the nano-particle’s cytotoxicity in comparison with standard cancer drugsOutcomes:• Successfully conjugated α-Tocopherol succinate (α-TOS), a vitamin E analogue, with three clinically used anticancer drugs (cisplatin, doxorubicin and paclitaxel)• Demonstrated the superior efficacy of above-mentioned nanoparticles in cervical and breast cancer cell lines
