With over 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in higher education, I bring a teacher-scholar’s perspective to my work. I develop and assess innovative pedagogy for collegiate chemistry. I strive to understand the perspectives of mentors engaged in undergraduate research and provide opportunities for students to create knowledge and contribute to scholarly discourse. I work collaboratively to improve the outcomes of students in STEM. I advocate for an environment of integrity and transparency, rather than manipulation or obscure expectations. My administrative experience is related to creating a culture that advances undergraduate research and creative activities. With excellent organization and time-management skills, I understand the planning detail and personnel requirements to implement new and sustain existing undergraduate research programs. I have gained experience working productively on a team committed to common goals. I have built active and productive collaborations with various campus offices and value inclusivity and diverse perspectives. After the desired outcomes are reached, I am pleased to celebrate the success and champion the contributions of the team. I employ useful assessment instruments to evaluate the impact of programs and have presented my findings in scholarly journals and conference presentations. Throughout this process, creative problem solving and lucid communication skills are indispensable. An effective leader has an inspired vision for the future and then clearly defines the path to success. I am a CUR councilor for the Division of Chemistry and serve as the President for the Mason chapter of Sigma Xi, a premier scientific research society. I am an active member of the American Chemical Society. I have served as a member of the Faculty Senate at George Mason University and currently serve as Chair of the Faculty in the College of Science.
