I have completed my MBBS and MD (Geriatric Medicine) followed by 3 years senior residency (Geriatric Medicine) from AIIMS-Delhi. I have specialized in a recently developed speciality i.e. Geriatric Medicine. As children are under care of paediatrician due to their different physiology from adults, similarly elder patients are different from their younger counterparts (due to different physiology from adults, polypharmacy, multimorbidity, atypical presentation, etc). Thus elderly patients need Geriatricians. India and particularly Rajasthan has been undergoing a significant demographic transition with a rapidly increasing ageing population. This population due to its complex medical needs require a specialist to take care i.e. a Geriatrician. Over next decades, number of elderly people in India is on a rise but doctors specially trained to take for such patients are limited.Currently Rajasthan lacks even a single doctor who has specialized and completed his MD in Geriatric Medicine. Rajasthan government has started Geriatric Medicine departments in all their medical colleges but non of them has MD, Geriatric Medicine working under it. Few corporate sectors in Rajasthan have taken steps to start this department but even they don’t have a Geriatrician due to lack of availability of a Geriatrician. I have specialized in Geriatric Medicine. I am keen to use my experience that I gained from AIIMS and to provide a specialized comprehensive care to elderly patient (≧60 years age) by developing Geriatric Medicine department.
