I am an applied statistical scientist with extensive experience in academia, government, and industry. With over 180 publications in a range of clinical specialties, I have used my statistical expertise primarily but not solely in clinical studies. My goal is to create a scientific consulting group focusing on the design and interpretation of the results of clinical studies of international health problems. This includes both high profile areas (e.g., tuberculosis and malaria), childhood illnesses (e.g., diarrhea and malnutrition) and rarer diseases which are not routinely found in the developed world. We would focus on developing non-standard projects such as assessment / comparison of health care delivery approaches, assessment of utility of a clinical intervention using single arm studies and historical comparisons, and feasibility / utility studies intended to provide experience with a standard approach in an innovative setting.The consulting group would also pioneer and implement innovative methods to perform research in the international setting. Although we recognize that GCP standards should not be lightly disregarded, many of the typical activities in a clinical study are not as critical for studies intended to guide health care when results need to be robust to guide health policies. Examples include minimizing data collection, focusing only on clinical AEs, and extensive auditing of study data.Focusing on the design and interpretation of studies is consistent with publications on the economic value of biostatistical consulting (Stat Med 2000:19:2131‑2145) and our understanding that at least some international groups can manage data and perform data analysis, but feel that help in planning studies and interpreting the results would be invaluable.Specialties: Overall design of a clinical development program; design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation of clinical studies; non-standard study design; non-standard data analysis;

Scientific DirectorTruth, Ltd. 1989 - PresentTruth, Ltd. (SM) has provided scientific and statistical consulting for over 20 years. Our focus has been primarily on academic investigators with grant supported research, especially the preparation of such grants. We have also worked with commercial clients (both pharmaceutical and device companies) and health care insurers.We pride ourselves on our creative and innovative solutions to real world problems. This includes developing new statistical methods when appropriate. For example, our work for health care insurers led to several methodology publications for new methods of data analysis (Parker and Wenneker, Jt Comm J Qual Improv 1997;23:299-311; and Parker, Jt Comm J Qual Improv 1999;25:641-650.)

Research ProfessorUniversity Of Michigan Sep 2011 - Jul 2013Ann Arbor MiAppointment in the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health. Most of my statistical practice is in the School of Medicine, where I work with medical researchers to design the best possible research study, and then collaborate on the implementation and reporting of results. My favorite activity is working with scientists in the earliest stages, when the goals for the research project are being developed and then collaborating on the optimal design for the studies. -

Senior Biostatistical ScientistAmgen Oct 2006 - Jul 2009I advised over 120+ statisticians across the company, reviewed 100+ projects/year and provided direct advice on 50+ projects/year, This was focused on improving study feasibility, scientific validity, and statistical rigor, especially in the initial design of studies, the development of study concept documents, and the development of the subsequent protocols in several specific therapeutic areasI supported a BLA submission and advised on other briefing books submitted to FDA for review panels. One suggestion led to a briefing book being completely revised and simplifiedI was the statistical lead and overall co-lead on a major project for improving decisions at the end of Phase 2 portal, and led other infrastructure projects.I mentored junior statisticians, encouraging both preparation of statistical publications and taking greater roles in study team activities -

Work done through the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research.My primary focus was on metabolic complications of HIV infection and treatment, leading to 7 presentations at major scientific meetings, 6 other abstracts, and 10 publications in the scientific literature, with 4 additional publications in other areas of AIDS research. Among other accomplishments, a physician and I developed a full working protocol within one calendar week for a major study.
