About Sam Rudd

I am a Materials Scientist with a proven track record of research and innovation in cutting-edge technologies. Holding a PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, and Advanced Manufacturing, I have dedicated my career to exploring the frontiers of scientific knowledge and pushing boundaries with materials.I love problem solving, and challenging myself to learn new things.Currently, I am the Chief Technology Officer at Airbridge, a pioneering sustainable solutions company. In this role, I lead and inspire a talented team, driving groundbreaking advancements. Our primary focus is capturing and repurposing carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable products for a greener and sustainable future.Previously, I served as a Materials Scientist and a SIEF Ross Metcalf STEM+Business Fellow, Assistant Professor equivalent, in academia. Through my fundamental discoveries, I have pioneered an entirely new area of academic exploration that holds immense potential for commercial outcomes. These findings formed a long-term collaboration between academia and industry, resulting in a joint patent with Sentek Sensor Technologies Pty Ltd. for the next generation of chemical sensors in aqueous environments - based on a method that I developed.I have been honored with several prestigious awards in recent years, including:● 2020 SIEF Ross Metcalf STEM+ Business Fellowship● 2019 Prestigious Prime Super Agricultural Innovation Award for the significance of my discoveries applicable to AgTech development● 2019 Ralston Medal of Excellence in Physical Chemistry, and ● 2018 Norton Jackson Material Science and Engineering Medal for bridging fundamental research with industrial application. These recognitions reflect my commitment to developing innovative, practical, and impactful solutions to address long-term industrial challenges. Before my academic and research endeavors, I gained valuable experience as an Associate Production Manager and a professional Chemical Engineer in the chemical industry. Developing people is the icing on the cake for me. I take great pride in mentoring and supervising individuals across diverse roles, ranging from skilled labor and technical staff to professional engineers, as well as doctoral and postdoctoral students. It is a source of immense satisfaction for me to contribute to the growth and success of others in their respective career pursuits.
