Also designed and implement a simulator to evaluate the performance of cache coherence protocol design alternatives. Evaluated the impact of multistage interconnection network contention on the performance of directory-based cache coherence protocols.Actively worked on the design of the Vest Parallel I/O System, a new and innovative file system designed for massively parallel processors. This was original work that eventually became an IBM product for the IBM SP2, a predecessor to IBM Power machines.Evaluated the performance of parallel I/O architectures in massively parallel systems. This included the design and implementation of a parallel I/O simulator and an analysis of performance bottlenecks which resulted in several I/O subsystem changes to the IBM SP2 machine, the based machine for IBM's Deep Blue chess machine. Initiated a study to evaluate parallel I/O workload characteristics.Actively participated in the architectural design team for the successful ASCI blue supercomputer, a scalable shared-memory machine. Made significant contributions to the architectural design and implemented a simulator to evaluate the performance of the cache coherence protocols.Managed the Java Server Performance (JASPER) group, including providing technical direction and leading the technical team to quantify Java server performance. This was relative to legacy systems on IBM's server platforms.
