My journey as a doctor started with my early days of internship at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. It was a great learning and satisfying experience where I got the opportunity to serve the most underprivileged strata of society. After this, I appeared for various exams and joined the Government of Punjab as Medical Officer. My postings in rural setups at various places gave me a deep understanding of the existing Primary Healthcare infrastructure and bestowed me with a first-hand experience of the prevailing problems in the system. The two major lacunae I came across were ignorance of the patient and lack of access to quality healthcare services, which led to quackery. During my journey as a Medical Officer, I contributed in the research work of my wife, Dr Ameesha Mahajan who is a practising Dermatologist, and published a few posters and research papers. This also gave me exposure to pitfalls in private practice. On further discussion and deliberation on the prevailing issues with my better half and well-wishers, I zeroed upon the idea of starting a comprehensive Telehealth portal, DOCTERZ.COM, which could be an asset to both doctors and patients. Currently, along with my job I an actively taking care of my startup and look forward to taking it to newer heights. In 2019, we were selected amongst the Top 20 most promising Digital Health Startups. I am really grateful to the fact that we were able to serve around 1000 doctors, to treat their patients, through this startup during this COVID pandemic.
