Sawsan Abdul-Majid , received M.Sc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering, Optical communication systems from Varna University, Bulgaria. Joint the Faculty of Engineering at 7th of April University in Libya, as university professor,for 7 years .In 1999-2003 she worked as optical Engineer at Global fiber optics / Mississauga/Canada and Optiwave Corporation/Ottawa/CanadaIn 2003-2008 she held faculty positions at the University of Technology( Baghdad, Iraq) and Koya University ( Kurdistan, Iraq), where beside her faculty positions duties , she managed an International project to establish Women Information Communication Technology (WICT) centers at Iraqi Universities.At 2008, she worked as a Research Associate/ group manager at the Photonics technology Laboratory( PTlab) at the University of Ottawa. Her work expertise is in the field of Silicon photonics, and nano photonics. She has more than 45 publications, related to silicon photonics, PIC, optical amplifiers, optical systems .Since 2014 Dr. Abdul -Majid is a part time professor at the university of Ottawa .During 2016 Dr. Abdul -Majid establised ANCWT - Advancing new Canadain women in Technology ( www.ancwt.ca ) program to help women trained in STEM to connect to Canadian job market .Sawsan received the 2023 Champion of Diversity award from governmnet of Onatrio for her work at ANCWT .Dr. Abdul-Majid is licensed professional engineer of Ontario (P.Eng ) and senior member(SM IEEE),and she is the faculty advisor for Uottawa IEEE student chapter .
