Dr. Scott Appell is an orthopedic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, specializing in total joint replacement, shoulder surgical intervention, and arthroscopy of the shoulder, hip and knee. Additionally, he focuses on performing total and partial revisions involving hardware as well as the comprehensive treatment of pediatric and adult fractures.Dr. Appell heads the Advanced Joint Care Program at Trinity Medical Center, a Blue Distinction hospital that demonstrates expertise in knee and hip replacement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He and Dr. Lawrence Lemak are committed to providing optimal results for patients who require knee and hip replacement services. The Advanced Joint Care Program is a state-of-the-art patient and family teaching facility that provides educational pre-surgery joint classes, a dedicated inpatient unit, inpatient therapy services and outpatient therapy services.Dr. Appell received his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from The University of Florida and graduated with high honors, made the Dean’s List as well as the President’s Honor Roll. He then continued his education at The University of Florida Medical School where he ranked in the top percentile of his class. Dr. Appell then attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine where he completed his General Surgery Internship, Orthopaedic Surgery Residency, and Microvascular Surgery Residency.Dr. Appell is a member of several professional societies including the following: the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Jefferson County Orthopaedic Society, the Alabama State Medical Association, The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Medical Association. He also serves as the team physician for Gardendale High School, Fultondale High School, Hayden High School, and the surrounding communities.
