Director, Network For Lgbt Heath EquityThe Fenway Institute 2000 - 2013Boston, MaI began my tenure at Fenway Institute by being their Director of Transgender Health Research. In this capacity, I participated in a series of programmatic and clinical research projects aimed at building the knowledge-base about transgender health and policy. For three years of this time I procured funding for then ran a national multi-site research study testing a novel idea for smoking cessation recruitment. For the final five years of my tenure, I procured funding for then ran one of CDC's six tobacco disparity networks. Much of the daily activity on this project was focused on policy: creating model policies to assist state governments in enhancing their work in this area, and working with a variety of federal policymakers to improve focus on and research about this issue. -

We prepared white papers for distribution among federal policymakers and presented at conferences on applicable subjects. Our top goal during this time was to achieve LGBT data collection on the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). To that end, we worked with a variety of federal officials, from the cabinet level down to the scientist level, eventually, LGB data collection on the NHIS was achieved.
