I have worked as a Research Scholar, on a DBT (Department of Biotechnology, Government of India) funded research project entitled “Screening for bio-molecules from microbial diversity collected from different ecological niches”. Simultaneously, I was also actively involved in other projects titled “Obesity and gut microbiota” and “Microbial community structure analyses of insect midgut”. For the deduction of community structure and their role in various metabolic and immunologic activities, I have used advanced microbial culture techniques, as well as modern molecular approaches like 16S r-DNA cloning and sequencing method, DGGE.

Marker Technology Laboratory.In molecular marker technology lab, I was screening plant samples for viral, bacterial diseaseresistance through Marker Assisted Selection (MAS). I was using MAS Selection for screening thedisease resistance genes viz. Ty-1, Ty-2 and Ty-3 (For Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl VirusResistance); MiJ, Mi1.2 (Conferring resistance to root knot nematode in tomato); I-2, I- 3(Conferring resistance to Fusarium oxysporum Race 2 and Race 3 in tomato); Tm-2 (For TMVresistance in tomato), and Sw5 (confers resistance to TSWV in tobacco using CAPS marker).Detection of transgenic plants were being done using selectable markers viz. nptII marker and Crysequence based primers in Bt Chilly, Bt Tomato, Bt Brinjal, Bt Cotton.
