About Dr. Shayla Polk, Lcsw

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience in policy, mental health, substance use prevention, trauma-informed care, and wellness. Currently, as the Executive Director of the Office of Drug Policy for the Executive Office of Governor Jeff Landry, I oversee key state boards, including the Drug Policy Board, the Governor’s Task Force on DWI, and the Advisory Council on Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education. I also represent the Governor on advisory boards such as the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board and the Louisiana Drug Control and Violent Crime Policy Board.In this role, I guide the development and implementation of state policy strategies focused on substance use prevention, mental health, and suicide prevention, emphasizing trauma-informed approaches to address these interconnected areas. I collaborate closely with the Louisiana Department of Health and the Office of Behavioral Health, particularly on youth-focused behavioral health initiatives.Outside of my government role, I am a professor of social work, a speaker, and a holistic wellness consultant. I’ve authored four social-emotional workbooks for youth and hold the title of Royal American Ms. 2024 with a platform centered on mental health and well-being. Additionally, I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
