I am currently serving as Associate Dean for Research, Faculty Development, External Partnerships & Graduate Studies at the College of Education & Professional Studies (CEPS) at the University of South Alabama. I also serve as the Director of the CEPS Office of Contracts & Grants, Director of Graduate Studies for CEPS and the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Coordinator for CEPS. I am a Professor of Counseling Psychology, with an appointment in the Department of Counseling & Instructional Sciences in CEPS. I was promoted to full professor in 2021. I previously served as an Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Counseling & Instructional Sciences in the College of Education at the University of South Alabama. I have served as core faculty and coordinator/director of clinical training for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.S. program and Clinical & Counseling Psychology Ph.D. programs at USA. I have spent my entire career as a mental health professional studying and working with juvenile offenders and other youth/families placed at risk. My work has focused particularly on racial/ethnic minority and/or impoverished children and caregivers who are involved in systems of care such as juvenile justice, foster care, special education and psychiatric/mental health systems, and who have experienced violent victimization. I continue to run a research/service project called the Mobile Juvenile Court Collaborative. Through the MJCC graduate students in counseling and psychology provide counseling services to adjudicated youth and their families.My research focuses on assessment of juvenile offenders, psychotherapy with juvenile offenders and their families and program design and evaluation in juvenile justice. More recently my work has focused on trauma-informed care in human services organizations of all types, and work with policing entities who have contact with victims of traumatic or violent crime such as rape, murder, assault and child abuse.
