Dr. Stella Pinkney Jones is the co-founder and owner of Stella Jones Gallery, the preeminent gallery in the South representing exclusively artists of the African Diaspora. Stella Jones Gallery opened in 1996, as the culmination of a dream of Dr. Jones and her late husband, Harry Wade Jones. Dr. Jones has been instrumental in organizing and providing art for national and international exhibitions that have served as ambassadors to the importance of Black art. She also believes strongly in the power of education, which was impressed upon her and her six siblings by her hard-working parents during her youth in Texas. Dr. Jones, along with her four children co-funds an endowed UNCF scholarship in honor of the life and art of New Orleans native artist, John Scott, for African-American students enrolled in certain Louisiana historically black universities. Dr. Jones has a long history of philanthropy, believing that “service is the rent we pay for our space on the Earth.” She is a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and an alumnae member of the Crescent Chapter of The Links Incorporated. Dr. Jones served on the Board of Trustees of the New Orleans Museum of Art for several years. Prior to opening the gallery, Dr. Jones practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Mid-City and was committed to focusing her practice on the under-served women of the New Orleans community.
