Dr Stephen Birrell is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a Chief Medical Officer at HAVAH Therapeutics, a women’s health biopharmaceutical company. He has over 30 years of experience in breast oncology, biotechnology, and medical research and development. He is passionate about improving the quality of life for women across the world by developing innovative, proprietary hormonal therapies that aim to prevent breast cancer.As a founder, entrepreneur, and inventor, Dr Birrell has led the clinical trials of HAVAH Therapeutics' lead drug candidate, T+Ai™, which targets the reduction of mammographic breast density, a leading independent risk factor for breast cancer. He is also the founder and medical director of Wellend Health, a state-of-the-art breast health specialist clinic and centre for research in Adelaide, Australia. He is internationally recognised for his pioneering work on the role of androgens in the regulation of breast disease and hormone replacement therapy, and has published extensively in leading journals, including Nature. He holds multiple patents for methods of reducing breast cancer risk and side effects from aromatase inhibitors.
