Dissertation, Principal InvestigatorAdler University Jun 2017 - Aug 2020My doctoral dissertation focused on how to help Hispanic/Latinx entrepreneurs in the U.S. to decrease their daily stress especially during the COVID pandemic. By bringing together key elements from three empirically validated psychological theories, culturally-sensitive DEIB research, and applying my expertise in stress management, mindfulness, and program design, I created a virtual three-workshop series stress management program that I offered to Hispanic/Latinx entrepreneurs and studied its impact on their perceived stress levels.Instead of focusing on decreasing the number of stressors entrepreneurs face (a common yet unsustainable approach in stress management), my program taught and strengthened attendees' mindset and behavioral approaches and skills when facing stress while guiding attendees to consider the influences of their cultural backgrounds with intention.Study results found a statistically significant reduction in perceived stress over time as a function of the workshop series program intervention! This study has since been published and I successfully defended this dissertation as part of my degree requirements. This study and program was the first of its kind, and I feel honored to have helped address the appalling gap in research and scholarly literature on the Latinx/Hispanic entrepreneurial community. Title: The Effects of a Stress Management Program Based on Mindfulness, ACT, & CBT on Perceived Stress in Hispanic and Latinx Entrepreneurs in the United States. -
