I was hired into this position primarily for two reasons: my research background provides me unique insights into the current realities facing incoming students and to implement change in a long established system. My work here is multifaceted. As an administrator, I take care of all the managerial functions expected to chair a department. All of these activities are pretty straightforward and come with the position. In addition to these, I continue to teach, recruit students, and provide systemic change. Over the years, my training and experience have developed in me the ability to pick up on and pay attention to how systems of people develop and interact. That is, I'm really good at seeing how people relate to each other and why. Once these systems are identified, I develop strategies for positive change that impact the entire network of systems that in turn impact the entire institution.So, I see myself as more than an Assistant Dean or department Chair. I am creating systemic synergy across the entire system. This requires forging new relationships/partnerships across [and outside] the institution, exploring possibilities that have never been considered, and utilizing/acting upon real research that provides insights into why people [of all ages] do what they do.

In the Spring and Summer of 2015, I assembled an interdisciplinary team to imagine, write, and then create the Vocati Institute. In November of 2015, we secured a $600,000.00 grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc., which we then officially launched in December of 2015.As director of the Vocati Institute I bore the responsibility of the institute and functioned as the chief operating officer. My responsibilities included, but were not limited to, marketing, personnel management, fiscal management, program design, program implementation, logistics, reporting, fundraising, student training and recruiting, and assessment.

My time at LCU was fantastic, however, we were far from family and did not want to retire in west Texas. So, in May of 2017 I resigned my tenure and moved to Nashville, TN.While at LCU I progressed in rank to Associate Professor of Youth, Family, and Culture and taught a full academic load that specialized in preparing young men and women for careers in ministry and academics. At LCU I also served as the Director of the Youth and Family Ministry program, which was the largest program of its type in the region and among Restoration universities. Additionally, I developed a popular seminar entitled, "Behind Blue Eyes: Unveiling the Realities of Adolescent Culture" which I tailored for churches, educational institutions, and businesses. In 2015, I assembled a team that wrote a grant to create a High School Youth Theology Institute. We were awarded that grant of nearly $600,000.00 by the Lilly Endowment and I directed the institute until December of 2018.As a member of the faculty, I served on and chaired many different committees, served as president of Faculty Senate, and was recognized by my peers with an excellence in teaching award.

I was responsible for a CH-47D helicopter and all mission equipment worth 18 million at the time. I performed and coordinated maintenance, servicing and inspections, and extensive maintenance operational checks. I was responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions of the helicopter subsystems, insuring that the logbook was current and correct, performing preflight and post-flight inspections, and training eight crew chiefs in the technical aspects of their duties.In the latter two years of my enlistment, I also served as a unit trainer for new flight engineers and crew chiefs.
