Applying decades of clinical care and teaching in healthcare policy & leadership, health education & promotion, social justice, and public health to the development of nursing, public health, health education, and other health professionals. I am actively engaged in the mentorship and growth of future healthcare leaders through fieldwork, preceptorship, advocacy, and community partnership. Additionally, I have been central to the creation of new, interdisciplinary mental & behavioral health programs that span sectors and specialties, are state, federally, and privately funded, and are charting the path for schools and healthcare organizations to prioritize the mental health of their students, patients, and workforce.My teaching philosophy is that learning and teaching are multi-dimensional and require a growth mindset. To teach well, we must have more than one arrow in the quiver. We must be creative, adaptable, and resilient in order to perceive, teach to, and inspire the minds and leaders that we are given the opportunity to influence. This philosophy is not unlike how I approach clinical care; Docere means to “to teach” and is the root of our word Doctor. I hold both responsibilities as teacher and doctor with care and reverence and feel strongly that their integration is critical to the future of healthcare. For us to make changes in healthcare outcomes, policy, and patient care, our new generation of providers and advocates must be equally dedicated to learning, teaching, and their growth. I was elected to a group of individuals that has the overall responsibility for the management of Bastyr University and that seeks to ensure the best interest of stakeholders in all types of management decisions. In this capacity I served on the Finance Committee, being a strong proponent of DEI integration througout the university's activities, and maintaining my committmet to high quality didactic and clinical education that prepares our graduates to excel in healthcare.

Providing out of hospital maternity care to low-risk families primarily in a birth center setting. Cared for several thousand families and 'caught' just shy of 550 babies as an actively practicing midwife for 10 years.

Working along with resident assistants and program director to run a Teen Living Program. These programs were designed for pregnant and/or parenting teens who were homeless and receiving benefits as a way to receive support in the pursuit of educational, parenting, financial, nutritional, and coping & mental health goals.
