Dr. Susan Carson is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) with 20 years of international experience in identifying, valuing and commercializing early stage biomedical and life sciences technologies in high-volume technology and market-driven organisations in both public and private sectors in Europe, US and more recently Singapore. She has worked with commercialization portfolios at all stages of technology/product life cycles, and has extensive experience in balancing long-term investment priorities with short-term accountabilities, as well as in companies in the process of change, including early adopters of Virtual Drug Development (Protodigm, 1996) and GAP Funding (RCT, 1998) business models. In her current role as Consultant (ESSC), she develops early stage and high-risk technologies through to commercially viable projects for portfolio, pipeline, strategic business unit, company or alliance benefit. ESSC works with, within or sets up appropriate organizational structures and business units to ensure successful outcomes within company needs and context. Recent projects include prototyping large organizations’ innovation programs and their approaches to new technologies and new business models, using innovation readiness levels (IRL) and organizational flexibility among other tools as optics.Dr. Carson initially trained and worked as a research scientist in CNS drug receptor biochemistry, chromatin analysis and molecular immunology in European centers of excellence in France (ENS, Paris), the UK (NIMR, Mill Hill, London) and Switzerland (BII, Basel), with later studies in Management of Change and Innovation (Imperial College, London). She is educated in the US (BA, Cornell University), France (Paris VI) and the UK (D.Phil., Oxford), is English and French speaking and works internationally in Europe, North America and Asia.
