I teach undergraduate courses in public relations, strategic communications and social media as well as graduate courses in mass communication. As an undergraduate instructor, my goal is to create the most knowledgeable, strategic thinkers who have the ability to develop and execute top-notch strategic communications plans. As a graduate instructor and dissertation advisor, my goal is to develop researchers who investigate and write top-notch research that impacts the world and creates new knowledge. My research interests include hip hop, rap, reality television, film, social media and African-American and female representations in the mass media. I have multiple published peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters as well as teaching instruction materials. I am the author of "The Interesting and Incredibly Long History of American Public Relations" and co-editor of "Social Media: Pedagogy and Practice," " Social Media: Culture and Identity" and "HBCU Experience – The Book." I am also the cofounder of the Social Media Technology Conference & Workshop, which is a two-day conference designed to bring academics and professionals together to discuss cutting-edge social media research and practices. I am often tapped by the media as a credible, scholarly source for topics related to my research interests, including social media, HBCUs, hip hop, pop culture, African-American and female media representations in the media and social media as well as teaching, especially at HBCUs. I also can be consulted for media training, social media and strategic communications presentations, and dissertation training workshops.
