As a Senior Member of the Technical Staff within the Antenna Systems Department at Aerospace, Dr. Roach continues to developed a career based around his technical expertise and proficiency in applied electromagnetics. Activities and responsibilities now have emphasis within the Aerospace industry, they include:• Provide antenna-system related technical support to a wide array of aerospace-related programs for both ground and space applications, including Global Position System (GPS) • Participate in antenna design, simulation, fabrication, and measurement tasks with emphasis on space applications• Perform antenna simulations activities to evaluate performance and to aid in the design and concept development processes of antenna systems• Contribute in internal research projects and the development of the department’s measurement and simulation capabilities• Provide independent technical evaluations and recommendations to program offices working on hardware development and manufacturing efforts with the contractorDr. Roach has acquired great interest in developing working knowledge and supporting adaptive antenna system electronics for the advancement of military GPS user equipment. In addition, he supports increasing the department’s capability in test and measure of phased array systems at millimeter wave frequencies. These efforts align with Dr. Roach’s aspiration to evolve and develop working knowledge in phased-array antenna systems and thus advise the customer on system engineering problems within the complex space enterprise.

Upon voluntarily leaving his last appointment and willingly taking a purposeful break from the workforce, Dr. Roach is now ♦seeking career opportunities♦ as a Sr. Engineer in R&D roles inclusive to applied electromagnetic-based technologies (e.g., antennas, phased arrays, and communication/radar systems). His research interests and initiatives in the field include system level integration of phased arrays with adaptive and multifunctional characteristics; expanding small array functionality in wireless sensor networks; transforming array capabilities into emerging and next-generation wireless communication technologies; and realizing antenna/antenna array technologies with novel physical materials and manufacturing techniques.During this period of the break, Dr. Roach has had the opportunity to invest more in himself, acquire a myriad of fulfilling life experiences, and ‘design think’ the next steps in his life going forward. He is in pursuit of a career in which he can apply acquired engineering work experience in R&D and academia to help create and advanced technologies that offer significant benefits to societies and economies—those that have the ability to alter established ways of doing things. He desires to be part of, and thrive in, a work environment with purpose driven goals in mind. As a faculty member with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and at the Advanced Radar Research Center (ARRC) at the University of Oklahoma (OU), Dr. Roach engaged himself in a myriad of activities revolved around the core components beholden to the mission of the university and the career path of an assistant professor: teaching, research, service, and funding. During his brief tenure at OU, Dr. Roach’s notable activities include:• Co-principal investigator on a proposal effort awarded by the federal government investigating application specific state of the art in reconfigurable antennas• Participating with ARRC colleagues and National Severe Storm Lab (NSSL) members on the preliminary design and development of a Geo-Fence radar for small UAS weather observations. • Contributed in various other collaborative research proposal and solicitation efforts • Publication of a journal article in the IEEE Transaction on Antennas and Propagation • First-time course prep and instruction of two core undergraduate courses in back-to-back semesters: Electrical Circuits I and Electromagnetic Fields I; Dr. Roach’s commitment to the course and the students’ success earned him an award honored by the IEEE student society• Recruitment and advisement of a Master’s student, serving on several graduate student committees• Representing OU in public domain by speaking at a community outreach event and participating in activities to educate the greater-community on the science of radar• Attending a series of events to further develop himself professionally and in the teaching, research, and service sectors (e.g., workshops, seminars, conferences, and lecture series)• Earning positive reviews at the end of his first Annual Progress Toward Tenure Review meeting; the outcome signified his progression and accomplishments as a faculty member

While at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), Dr. Roach developed a career based around his technical expertise and proficiency in applied electromagnetics. He contributed significantly to a variety of projects meeting the needs of the organization illustrating his growth and development in phased array antenna design, electromagnetic modeling and simulation, analysis and characterization of foreign threat radar systems, and other wider reaching technical areas. Furthermore, his technical contributions and innovations resulted in his involvement with over 15 government sponsored programs and one internal research and development effort. The results of his efforts led to several key delivered products, numerous final reports and presentations to the customer, multiple interim presentations and reports, and numerous internal briefings and documentation. Dr. Roach’s continuing technical achievements allowed for advancement into project leadership and supervision roles which include task lead on two major projects and lead system analyst for another effort. In many of his roles, he supervised, guided, and trained GTRI faculty of junior, equal, and senior rank to himself. Dr. Roach technical mastery in electromagnetics and antennas continually contributed to sponsored program development in various project efforts and helped expand GTRI’s relationship with a number of sponsors. Further exemplifying his proficiency in the field and ability to take on new challenges, he taught lectures in antenna array theory via video conference to senior level students at a university in Ireland through GT’s Distance Learning program. The course met the objective of bridging international relationships with GTRI and the University of Ireland. In summary, his accomplishments have led to recognition externally and internally via awards and praises from sponsors and senior researchers at GTRI, and eventual promotion to the rank of Senior Research Engineer within the organization.
