Key findings:1. Familiarity effects measured w/implicit memory tasks can develop after one very brief masked presentation in an explicit memory task. 2. The IAM's "context enhancement effect" occurs with target letters in the initial position if the presentation conditions control for covert shifts of attention.3. The concept of orthographic neighborhood should be extended to include words of different length than the stimuli presented.4. No need to posit separate "systems" for implicit and explicit memory findings.Teaching experience includes:- large lecture sections of Intro to Psychology (directed dozens of TAs)- writing-intensive honors sections of Introductory Psych- courses in Statistics and Experimental Psychology- advanced courses in cognition, memory, language, perception, and theoretical Psychology- a writing-intensive special topics course in critical thinking- capstone course for Psychology majorsServed on University Senate committees and as faculty adviser for the Maryland Terps Boxing Club.Pedagogical goals (get students to do their best work and develop their writing & critical thinking skills) accomplished by applying my expertise in human learning & memory.
