Responsible for the development of accurate, psychometrically effective test items for a nationally administered, high-stakes standardized examination (MCAT). Identified and recruited a large cadre of subject matter experts to write and review technically accurate items for the test. Improved the technical quality of Psychology items on the test and ensured the accuracy of responses to "student challenges" to items.The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. The campus in College Park (Maryland's land grant university) is the flagship campus of the University System of Maryland. I taught undergraduate Psychology courses at every level and represented the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) on the University Senate's CORE Committee. The CORE program governs the university's required general liberal arts courses for all undergraduate students. I chaired the Social Sciences and History working group (a CORE subcommittee). I also served on the University Senate's Student Affairs Committee, helping that committee co-sponsor the creation of the Family Care Resource and Referral Service, an employee benefit that had been sorely needed for many years. I also had the great honor of serving as the faculty advisor to the Terps Boxing Club from 2004 through 2010, assisting in returning the sport to the University of Maryland after a nearly 50-year absence.Courses taught included Introductory Psychology, Introductory Psychology (Honors), Statistics for Psychology, Memory and Cognition, Thinking and Problem Solving, Psychology of Language, History and Systems of Psychology,

I taught the first cognitive science courses in the Psychology Department there, which is still a bastion of radical behaviorism.Taught undergraduate courses in: Introductory Psychology; Psychology of Language; and Cognitive Psychology. While at Fredonia State College (located in a small western New York village made famous in the 1933 Marx Brothers' movie, "Duck Soup"), I taught undergraduate courses in Introductory Psychology, Statistics for Psychology, History and Systems of Psychology, and a writing intensive Social Psychology course. I also served as academic advisor to a dozen Psychology majors and served on some departmental committees.

Received training in theoretical psychology, advanced statistics, and experimental design. Trained to conduct research into attention, visual perception, speech perception, human memory and learning, language, and human factors. Conducted research in visual perception and memory, which led to a doctoral dissertation combining both areas ("Letter Recognition in Familiar Contexts"). Discovered a rapidly developing visual familiarity effect and investigated the role of memory in its development. Findings were applied to the issue of whether explicit and implicit memory phenomena can be explained by a single memory system.

Conducted research on hormonal influences on mood disorders. Collected and analyzed data for a hormonal model of depresssion based on premenstrual changes in women. Wrote a successful (i.e., funded) NSF grant.

The Consortium of the Niagara Frontier was a higher education opportunity program in western New York. From 1979 to 1986, I taught Psychology courses at all levels, and a course in introductory computer science with Pascal, to inmates at the maximum security Attica Correctional Facility. One summer, I taught a very popular elective course entitled "Psychology and the Courts." Such a course had never been offered at Attica and I sometimes wonder whether inmates at any other facility have ever had such an opportunity. My return engagement in the fall of 1992 found me teaching a computer literacy course.

While working for RCS Company, I managed the development of two customized, computer-assisted technical training courses for machine repair skilled tradesmen at the Woodlawn Stamping Plant of the Ford Motor Company. One was for the Verson hydraulic presses. The other was for the IHI tandem press lines. Ford used those courses at every stamping plant where they had the Verson and IHI presses.
