About Tracey Jones, Mba, Phd

Author of 12 books, I am the president of Tremendous Leadership. My father, the late Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, founded Executive Books in 1965 with the goal of changing the world one book at a time. After growing my experience bag every way and everywhere I could, I moved back home to Central PA to carry on the tremendous legacy in 2009 after my father's passing. It was an easy choice for me, after all, I had grown up under the tutelage of greats like Zig Ziglar, Og Mandino, and Norman Vincent Peale. I read personal development books and wrote book reports to earn spending money. The transformative power of learning through reading great books was instilled in me at a very early age.My father taught me to go out into the world and earn my stripes! And that is exactly what I did. I am a former Air Force officer and Gulf War veteran, my career in uniform took me from Roswell, New Mexico to stations in Germany and England, where I honed my operational expertise and tremendous leadership skills in a number of command roles. A Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, native, I am also a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute and the United States Air Force Academy, two of my proudest achievements. During my time in the military, I had the honor of serving as a fighter aircraft maintenance officer on F-15s and F-16s. I deployed to the First Gulf War and the Bosnian War. The military was an incredible experience where I learned operational readiness and excellence and the power of teamwork and camaraderie. Before assuming my father’s mantle at Tremendous Leadership, I built a career as a corporate “fixer.” When I share my own experiences, I always was on the leading edge of pushing out the status quo. I am passionate about assembling the best co-mingling of leaders and followers to effect real, lasting change. After departing the military in 2000, I spent the next eight years in various project manager roles in the semiconductor and defense industry. I learned how to lead through influence versus power, a lesson that served me well in the civilian sector. The American College of Financial Services Adjunct, Institute of Organization Management Faculty, 2017 Honorary Doctorate Central Penn College, 2016 Leadership Cumberland Award, 2015 WOL Alumnus of the Year Award, 2014 Business Achievement Award, West Shore Chamber of CommerceWomen in Philanthropy Award, The Foundation for Enhancing Communities25th Annual YWCA Tribute to Women of Excellence, 2014Central PA’s Business Women’s Forum 2014 NomineeCentral Penn Business Journal’s Women of Influence 2013

PERCEPTIONS OF LEADER EFFECTIVENESS IN AN ORGANIZATIONAL CRISIS: A CASE STUDY OF FOLLOWER SELF-EFFICACYThis descriptive case study centered on follower perceptions of their leader in an organizational crisis, specifically the relationship between self-efficacy and crisis management. While there is growing research in the field of followership, this research focused on follower perceptions toward their leader’s crisis responses. At the core of the intended research was the study of leader perceptions in the follower’s mind. In today’s global and interconnected world, companies are judged by their ability to weather a crisis. Leaders will most likely face at least one major critical situation in their careers. The eruption of a catastrophe draws leaders and followers together in a unique manner. While normal operations can carry a degree of less than engaged members, when survival is at stake, it is all hands-on deck to right the ship. The cost of under confidence of the leader in followers or the price of low support of followers in their leader is a weight no organization can carry through a contingency response. Various factors formulate the perception of leader/follower assessment. Understanding how these perceptions become a reality is vital in building solid organizations capable of longevity. This case study focused on followers who have remained employed by the organization in crisis and within the reporting structure of the crisis leader. Content was collected on leaders as well to compare and contrast the perspective of leaders and the perspective of followers, i.e. what the leader experiences versus what the follower sees. The results demonstrated which crisis leader behaviors best resonated with followers and if follower self-efficacy enhanced the role of the leader.KEYWORDS: Leadership, Followership, Leadership/Followership Development, Organizational Crisis, Self-Efficacy, Perception.
