Because of her experience as a pro athlete and her business acumen, she understands how to help athletes experience success outside the lines while actively playing. In July 2024, Dr. Smith co-founded the Athletes Abroad Summit - the first co-ed business summit for American athletes who play sports outside the United States at UNLV. Supporters included the NBPA, UNLV, UFC, and other sports brands.As President and Founder of The Athlete's Nexus, Dr. Smith advises and consults with athletes and sports organizations. Her focus areas are professional development, leadership, and wealth generation. Dr. Smith earned her degree in Marketing and her MBA from SEC-contender Ole Miss, before taking her basketball talent to Europe for a two-year career as a professional athlete. After retiring from professional athletics, Dr. Smith entered the corporate world with Merrill Lynch, as a Registered Financial Advisor to several professional athletes. She found herself helping her clients protect their assets, build and monetize successful brands, coordinate community initiatives, secure marketing endorsements, and more.To better prepare athletes for their time in the 'lights,' Dr. Smith has created several programs and resources - including best-selling book [Surviving the Lights], her second published work [Plan TOO], her signature teen financial literacy curriculum [Teen Money Box], and her student-athlete professional development workshop series [PRO-Ready]. She not only shares the WHAT, she shares the HOW! Dr. Smith frequently shares industry secrets and business strategies to help her fellow athletes monetize a life outside of sports, particularly Black football and basketball athletes. Dr. Smith completed her doctoral studies at The University of Memphis. As an award-winning researcher, she specializes in student-athlete development programming development. In 2023, Dr. Smith became an award-winning filmmaker with her contributions to Ballin’ Abroad - an international sports documentary. Dr. Smith also leads the Tywanna Inmon-Smith Scholarship Fund for girls basketball players. She is truly changing the game, one athlete at a time!
