Chartered Senior Manager (Cmgr Mcmi) - Enterprise & Activities
Working for Serco as a Senior Manager / Operations Manager overseeing a number of departments including two commercial industrial units involved in printing, copying and textiles. My secondary role is the Head of Learning skills where I oversee a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the delivery of education by one of the largest colleges in the country. Furthermore, I am also responsible for structuring of all employment and the affective use of time in activities, employment and education to approximately 1145 people. My areas of responsibility require me to engage with a number stakeholders, business partners, agencies, employers both current and prospective primarily within the South Yorkshire region. During my time as a Senior Manager I have successfully managed a number projects which have had a significant impact on the business in relation to writing processes, procedures, identifying activities that enhance the overall delivery making it more effective, lean and focus driven as well as being more financially viable and sustainable.Recently I had the privilege to help set-up a pilot programme with the Cascade Foundation that aims to help people who have learning difficulties / problems and move forward. Primarily The Cascade Foundation focus on poor literacy skills and they have a unique way of helping people to move forward and actually learn to read and write. I believe in this passionately and when The Cascade Foundation asked me to be a trustee, I accepted and feel truly honored to have been asked. Operations Manager
Detached to HMP / YOI Ashfield as a member of the rectification team where I worked with colleagues from Wackenhut Correctional Services -and Serco to assist and recover Ashfield contract from HMPS management. This detachment lasted 11 months and we successfully regained the total management of Ashfield which is now seen to be one of, if not the best juvenile establishments in the UK. I'm also proud to say that Ashfield continues to develop and improve exponentially from year to year.Pre and post my time at Ashfield, Bristol I was the Head of Operations where I was part of the implementation team for a new design, build and manage a 25 year contract to run a category B sentenced prison.
Unit Manager
As a Unit Manager I was responsible for a number of areas which required me to manage and facilitate effective working procedures, processes and ensure adherence to rules and regulations, KPI and KPT’s. I was responsible for over 35 staff working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in an environment which was extremely demanding and challenging both physically and mentally. My role required me to ensure a safe and secure working environment for everyone who worked in my areas of responsibility and to ensure each members of staff health and welfare were not unduly compromised by the working environment. I was also responsible for ensuring training was planned and delivered where required, daily detailing of all staff, drive and guide staff development and performance using a bi-annual appraisal process.
Aircraft Engineering Technician
During my time in the Royal Air Force I was employed as an airframe engineer working at RAF St Athans where I conducted major overhaul and repair to defect maintenance, deep strip and build on both hydraulic and mechanical airframe components some of which were primary flying control components. Whilst working on these components I often required to proof read and test master worksheets. I also spent 2 years working in a structures bay and 3 years working in a hydraulics bay. The work in the hydraulics bay required me to be trained to work with aircraft electrical components associated with power flying control actuators and various associated electrical components which are crucial to the safe operation of a number of airframe components.
