My passion is getting a crowd excited about science, whether it is an audience of 10 or 10,000. As the Director of Scientific Communications at the American Lung Association, I help to highlight the impact our organization makes through its investments in research funding to defeat lung disease, and empower scientists to be better citizens in fighting misinformation. As an award-winning public speaker and communicator, I coach scientists to deliver engaging scientific content to policymakers and stakeholders without a wall-of-text Powerpoint. I help people raise the energy of the room by bringing the science alive through their own passion and enthusiasm, which creates a lasting, genuine relationship with the audience. My PhD is in exercise physiology (Yes, you CAN get a PhD in Gym) and I studied how the heart and lungs work together during exercise, and how that changes from a couch potato to an elite athlete, or in patients with chronic lung disease. This expertise has come in handy in COVID times. I am a clever writer, and am a freelance medical writer/copy editor. I have published 18 biomedical research manuscripts and over $400,000 in research funding and scholarships. My stage presence is built on 20 years of classical voice training as a lyrical baritone internationally. I sang in Carnegie Hall in 2012, and in graduate school, I was the official Canadian National Anthem and also performed at professional sporting events in front of 30,000 people.
